Baltimore Based FunSeek Makes Finding Local, Personalized Events Easy

May 6, 2012

There’s an unspoken rule that every social circle has a DPP (Designated Party Planner).  It’s one person, and one person only.  If ever this person were to fail to formulate the day or evening’s plans, the balance of said social circle falls into a paralyzing state of disarray.  There is great power in this role, but as the wise Uncle Ben once said, with great power comes great responsibility.

Sometimes, however, this responsibility is difficult, time consuming, and/or not worth the stress.  As the party planner of her group, Archana Jaiswal turned this frustration into the inspiration for FunSeek, a Baltimore-area based events search website.

“As the mother of three children with limited time, I was frustrated by the inefficiency of going to multiple sources including venue websites to find fun things to do for the kids and for the grown-ups.  While there are events search websites, they are cluttered with and mainly push advertised events which result in limited and disappointing choice of events….Finding fun can be a tedious and frustrating exercise and well, not a lot of fun. So I came up with FunSeek, a singular go-to-source for fun where I can find fun faster and easier.”

As compared to zvents, FunSeek hopes to differentiate itself by having a cleaner, simpler interface and to provide a more personalized set of results.  ”If you’re looking for a free, outdoor concert, then FunSeek will find exactly that instead of giving you all free events, all outdoor events and all concerts,” says Jaiswal.

As of right now, FunSeek is available only in the Baltimore area, but Jaiswal hopes to expand her service soon, citing her parents as the inspiration for expansion: “FunSeek was also inspired by my parents.  While they travel, extensively at times, they get in to a rut and don’t fully explore and partake in all the local fun around them.  They live in New York and I am looking forward to FunSeek becoming a useful website for them and others sometime soon.

FunSeek was one of the startups featured at the Baltimore Tech Cocktail Mixer.
