Depending on where you live, you’ve already played several rounds of golf this year or are just now getting out the golf clubs, all eager to tee up. If you live in the Chicago area, you’re going to want to start using Back9Booking, a new interactive website that lets you search, compare and book tee times for free.
Instead of wasting a lot of time calling multiple courses in search of a suitable tee time, you can now select a date and time, and choose from a number of available courses to instantly make a reservation – and be done in minutes.
Founded by brothers (and avid golfers) Glenn, Struan, and Brent Robertson, they were frustrated by the lack of online solutions. As Brent explained, “In many other industries like travel, dining, and food delivery, there are quite a few online services, but for booking golf tee times there is only one giant in the industry – Golf Now, which is owned by The Golf Channel.”
After doing research for about 12 months, the brothers decided that golfers and golf course operators were looking for a better solution in the market. Unlike Golf Now, Back 9 does not charge users a transaction fee. “We also found that golfers don’t want to pay in advance for a non-refundable tee time because if their plans or the weather changes, there is no option cancel the tee time,” said Brent.
They are only focusing on Chicago for the 2012 golf season, and plan to strategically expand throughout the country to other major golf cities. You can learn more about their future plans at tomorrow night’s Tech Cocktail Chicago mixer.
