Ben Huh may be best known as the cat meme magnate who is actually allergic to cats.  The founder and CEO of the social humor network, Cheezburger Network, has raised over $30M in funding since it first launched in 2007.

His 60 websites, including I Can Has CheezburgerFail BlogThe Daily What and Know Your Meme, has more than 24 million visitors each month.

Huh will be in Chicago Sept. 4th to talk to local entrepreneurs at Tech Cocktail’s Mixer & Startup Showcase  about his experience building a successful business. He will be joined by Talia Mashiad, founder Eved. He is not shy about sharing experience and advice. Here are some of our favorite quotes from Huh that can be advice to all startup founders. A taster.

On Productivity

On Perseverance

“Keep trying new ideas. We really had nothing to lose, so we kept on developing new sites, acquiring interesting ones that came up. We were efficient and we were fearless.” September 2013

On Scaling

“What works when you’re a 10-person company stops working at 25 people. The same is true at every 2 to 3x increase in scale.” September 2013

Now a Meme Break

Back! On the Importance of Content

“Cat memes, and for that matter cat-related websites, are your competition online. They compete for your audience’s attention, so your content needs to stand out.” September 2013

On Failure

“Failure and risk (is) something entrepreneurs understand well, and learn to manage.” March 2014

“Often, when faced with a problem, you want to run in the other direction. It’s like seeing a lion in the jungle. But I have to do what is best for the company, even if it sucks emotionally.” March 2014

On Work Life Balance

“You just need the balance that you want. I work all the time…People look at me and say: ‘You don’t have work/life balance’. I get annoyed with this because why should you impose your concept of work/life balance on me? I love what I do!” March 2013
