Clean Up Your Online Presence With RepNup

Social media plays a huge role in today’s job search. Not only can social media connect you with employers, but also it can lead you to new employment opportunities. Although social networks such as Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn have helped job seekers land jobs, they’ve also cost many professionals a chance at advancing their careers.

Take a moment to think about your Facebook account and the content you’ve posted. How harmless are those pictures from college parties? Or what about the multiple weeknight check-ins at bars?

When it comes to managing your online presence, you might want to think twice about what you post online when you apply for jobs. Research shows 45 percent of employers chose not to hire a candidate because of evidence of alcohol or drug related use found on their social profiles.

Since social networking plays such a huge role in your job search, don’t you want to make sure your profile is squeaky clean? RepNup, a startup whose goal is to help you clean up your online presence, will run a check of your Facebook account to make sure it’s free of explicit content. This can serve as a useful tool for job seekers striving to have a professional online presence.

How does RepNup work?

For job seekers: RepNup helps job seekers by screening their Facebook for any content that may be a red flag to employers. When scanning your Facebook, RepNup looks for profanity, drug references, information that shouldn’t be publicly known (such as the last person you hooked up with), or negative language that references anger or violence.

Performing a Facebook screening using RepNup can help job seekers become more aware of what they post online. Although RepNup can’t provide a complete overview of all of the content you post, it can help create a clean slate as you apply for jobs.

For employers: Although RepNup is specifically designed for job seekers, this app makes the recruiting process easier for employers. The more job seekers are aware of their online presence, the less they have to worry about making their profiles private. This way, employers can learn more about candidates without having to jump through hurdles to learn about a candidate’s online behavior.

What do you think of RepNup? Do you think it can help job seekers?
