Conference Call Startup Speek Raises $1.2 Million

Speek2

Today, DC startup Speek announced $1.2 million in seed funding to grow their online conference call product.

Speek users can create conference calls with a URL (http://speek.com/YourName) rather than a phone number and pin. Only the organizer needs to have a Speek account.

Since Speek launched in June, it has attracted tens of thousands of users. Today’s funding will allow it to expand its core team and devote more resources to marketing.

The current team, led by Evite cofounder John Bracken, has worked since June to improve call quality, add file sharing and chat, and integrate with Dropbox and social media. Speek also got accepted into AOL’s Fishbowl Labs incubator.

In the future, Speek plans to work on supporting smartphone and tablet users and adding new productivity features. But mostly, they want to continue to improve what’s already offered. “The quality of the experience is always our first priority. We will never be done working on that aspect of our service, and we plan to continue to push forward on that front,” says Bracken.
