The job market is complicated, technology-focused world. Everyone from data analysts to receptionists need to be aware of the latest softwares and platforms in order to keep a company afloat. Unfortunately, there aren’t a lot of affordable programs that allow every day people to gain access to these innovations. Fortunately, someone is opting to make coding bootcamps more available to graduates of the City University of New York.
That’s right, the City University of New York and Revature have joined forces to create Revature at CUNY, a strategic partnership to provide free industry-aligned coding bootcamps for CUNY graduates. The 12-week program will allow graduates of the university to learn the latest enterprise-level, next-generation and niche technology skills at no cost to them beyond their regular tuition.
“CUNY is committed to supporting equal access to opportunity for all, regardless of background, means, race and gender,” said Ann Kirschner, Special Advisor to the Chancellor for Strategic Partnerships at CUNY in a press release. “In today’s world, opportunity means tech. Coding bootcamps are helping to narrow the enormous demand for technology professionals in New York and across the country — but are prohibitively expensive and out of reach for many students.”
If you don’t already know, diversity in tech has been a huge fault with the industry. Despite the growing need for unique perspectives in a growing market, startups and big companies have been unable to fill the gap in their respective teams. This partnership will aim to make inclusion a necessity, providing educational programs and employment opportunities to graduates of one of the most diverse universities in the US.
“CUNY has one of the most diverse student bodies in the country, and this partnership will help us meet the growing technology needs of our corporate partners as they actively look for ways to build and harness the many noted benefits that diverse technology teams deliver,” said Joe Mitchell, senior vice president of academic partnerships at Revature in the same press release.
Revature is now accepting applications from CUNY graduates for both on-campus bootcamps. The application deadline for the first Queens College bootcamp is October 15 and you can sign up for them here.
