At the SXSW Interactive festival this weekend, DC mayor Vincent Gray and some of his colleagues were on hand in Austin to learn more about the technology industry and talk about DC’s plans.
One of Mayor Gray’s five-year goals is “to grow the most competitive technology presence on the East Coast.” To that end, he and other officials launched ConnecTech, an initiative to help small tech companies find opportunities in government R&D money. The city also agreed to provide $200,000 in funding to 1776, a new incubator focused on education, health, energy, politics, and media that hopes to connect the startup and policymaking industries.
Mayor Gray stopped by the DC Tech Meetup at our SXSW Startup Celebration sponsored by CEA and .CO. He talked about the city’s excitement about startups, 1776, and his plans for DC. Here’s the video.
