When you think of tech startups in Chicago you probably think of Groupon as they are one of the fastest growing startups in the country, if not the world. So we wanted to see who our readers thought the hottest early-stage startup in Chicago might be. We selected over 30 companies and put them in a poll. The poll raged on for close to a week and thousands of votes were tallied. After all the dust cleared, FeeFighters which we’ve covered previously was voted the hottest early-stage startup in Chicago collecting nearly 40 percent of the votes! FeeFighers finds the best prices for credit card processing for small businesses and obviously the Tech Cocktail community thinks they have a lot of potential. Coming in second with nearly 27 percent of the vote was TapMe which we previously covered here, followed by Gitbax which is a creation of the The App House collecting 17 percent of the votes. The rest of the top ten included the following Red Foundry, Gtrot, PVPower, Local Offer Network, Where I’ve Been, Sprout Social and Scholar Pro. The top ten early-stage startups includes companies that have been funded by both Lightbank and Excelerate Labs, among others. Just about all the top ten companies have participated in a Tech Cocktail event so it’s great to see them all doing so well.
Also making it into the top 10 was the item “Other” for write-in votes, which we had a lot of. The most unique one of course was the “Chicago Cubs” and while at first I didn’t quite see how it could fit, I guess they are a 100+ year startup still looking to bring home the gold and shine a light on Chicago. Go Cubs, we’re pulling for you.
Congrats to all the Chicago early-stage startups that participated in the poll, you are all doing great things and we look forward to hearing from your throughout the year with your latest tech innovations and achievements. Check out the breakdown of the votes below.
