FLUD Launches Mobile News App Updates, Beefs Up Team and Settles Into San Diego

FLUD for iPad

We’ve been keeping our eye on all the mobile news innovations for the iPad and mobile apps (i.e. Flipboard, Pulse and Zite) so I was excited to catch up with FLUD founder and CEO Bobby Ghoshal in San Diego in May as we covered previously. At that time, they had just received $1 million in seed funding to become a mobile news “ecosystem.” Since then they have been settling into their West Coast office in the iconic downtown Spreckels Theater of San Diego and building up the team.

As FLUD positions itself for a Series A round of funding, they launched new iPad and iPhone updates today. FLUD has also released an Android app for private beta testing, targeting a public launch later this month. With the new iPad app, FLUD is introducing Twitter integration so that users can add his or her Twitter stream, mentions or saved searches as a feed in FLUD for iPad. A Facebook integration will be next. Of course, similar functionality will exist in the iPhone versions in the coming weeks too. Ghoshal had this to say of FLUD:

“We aren’t trying to be everything to everybody. There are some features we are able to do but have not added, just because we want to keep it simple and focus on the things people love about our app.”

We are big fans of FLUD and are excited for the new updates, as it handles content and imagery very well, making content displays elegant and compelling to read. We love the way Tech Cocktail looks on FLUD and I think you will too (see image below). Let us know what you think in the comments section below.

According to FLUD the next major announcement will come in four weeks – could it be that Series A round? Or is there something else FLUD has in the works? We look forward to finding out. In the meantime, FLUD will remain in my own daily morning routine as its a great way to consume the latest tech and business news.
