GameSalad: Game Creation Made Easy

Ever had an idea for a cool game you wanted to play on the iPhone or even your desktop and frankly you just didn’t have the technical know-how to get the job done ?  Of course, we all have.  Now you can remove the barrier of technical know-how because the folks over at GameSalad have made game design and development just plain easy.  You can create a game without knowing or having to write a single line of code. GameSalad is ..

  • A community focused on game design and idea exchange
  • Resources for game creation, including access to experts and interactive media
  • Innovative tools for game creation that eliminate the need for advanced programming knowledge
  • A platform for publishing and marketing user created games

From their site:

GameSalad.com is an online community created to support amateur and professional game developers to connect, gather resources, exchange ideas, buy and sell game artwork, post their portfolio, play member created games and connect games to social networking platforms.

GameSalad Creator is an intuitive development platform that democratizes game design by enabling non-programmers to create original, sophisticated games. Through a user-friendly interface, game designers can access complex algorithms necessary for implementing professional-level artificial intelligence and game play, without programming knowledge.

As you can see in the video, the interface looks pretty slick allowing you to create games by dragging and dropping actions and logic for the game and in the end compiling it to play on a mobile platform or even a desktop.

GameSalad is a 2010 SXSW Accelerator finalist and will be showcased at the TECH cocktail SXSW: Blackout Sunday event, presented by Microsoft BizSpark and Volusion.
