Last night in Las Vegas, folks from across the Las Vegas Valley (and even several visitors from other cities) gathered downtown at the Gold Spike for the Las Vegas Startup of the Year Competition & Mixer. Local sponsor Work In Progress, a coworking space that operates as an arm of the VegasTechFund, said they were able to connect with multiple startups in the area and sign a few new members! Also in attendance were mentors from sponsor ROCeteer, ready to connect with local founders who may need business guidance.
The winning startups from last night qualify to compete during Celebrate 2015 where other startups from all over the world will convene to attend workshops, meet with mentors, listen to inspiring talks, and participate in rejuvenating experiences while in Downtown Las Vegas, in addition to pitching for the final title of Tech.Co Startup of the Year.
At each event, two winners are chosen. One winner is the result of the online Reader’s Choice poll, which is conducted in the weeks leading up to the competition & mixer. The other winner is the result of live voting directly from the event after each startup has connected with the attendees during the mixer portion and delivered a final 60 pitch to the audience.
And so, the Las Vegas Startup of the Year is:
Reader’s Choice: Indicard
Indicard is an app for service industry employees to get “hookups” all over the city. Service industry employees can apply for membership and receive discounts, benefits, and access to services in their town.
Best Pitch: Text Safe Teens
Text Safe Teens is an app that will alert parents to any activity that drivers should not be performing on their phone while they are supposed to be driving. Distracted driving will costs our economy 175 billion dollars a year, and a single distracted driving lawsuit can cost a person, or company over 20 million dollars. Text Safe Teens looks to solve this problem.
But that’s not all! Apply for your your region’s online competition! We’re scouring the globe for the most innovative early stage startups to participate in regional startup competitions. During the semifinals at Celebrate 2015, prizes will be awarded to winning startups, and some prizes will be offered to competitors chosen by our sponsors. Techstars, one of the top U.S.-based accelerators, has reserved a guaranteed “fast track” in the Techstars application process, including an interview with one of their Managing Directors. CEA offers a prize package of exhibit space and ten free passes to the 2016 International CES show along with travel and accommodations in Las Vegas, Nevada for the show. They are looking for the best ‘consumer electronics’ startup to award this prize. We will announce more prizes for startups as the event nears.
