You use them every day, you look at them all the time, but you’re never really that conscious of their existence. Electrical outlets have been around for a little over a century now, but they’ve become so ingrained into our day to day that most of us take them for granted.
LivingPlug, however, decided that they wanted to change this almost-ancient technology precisely because so many people take them for granted. Recently, they launched the INLET, a modern makeover to the standard electrical outlet.
They officially launched the INLET at the Dwell on Design Conference in Los Angeles this past weekend. The INLET, according to the LivingPlug team, looks prettier, improves child safety, and helps conserve energy in households.
“Before we connect to WiFi, login, tweet, share, like or post, we plug in. We plug into a hardware interface that is ugly, unsafe, wasteful and antiquated,” reads the LivingPlug website. “The basic form function of the duplex outlet has gone unchanged for 100 years and this compounds some significant issues that we all experience on a day to day basis.”
