Mobile + Video + Job Search = Spark Hire App

Imagine during your lunch break having a video interview for a great new job without having to take time out of your day to travel back and forth to another office.  And make excuses for why you need to take such a long lunch break today.

With Spark Hire, you don’t need to. Their new iPhone app (iPad and Android coming soon) lets you record a video resume to create a profile video, and it lets you take part in the aforementioned video interview, all from your mobile device.  You can also manage your account, favorite job listings, receive alerts to jobs that match your criteria, and check emails in your Spark Hire inbox.

Spark Hire’s CEO, Josh Tolan, explained that they’re “not trying to replace any processes, but just enhance the job search process and bridge the gap between a resume and a hiring decision.”

Spark Hire launched the web platform in February in beta to get feedback.  “One strong push came from major companies asking for international plan so video interviews could be done internationally.  We’ve had interviews conducted form London, Barcelona, Delhi, and Hong Kong.”

Tolan actually got to take advantage of that international feature.  “I was looking to hire marketing interns and had some people apply on Spark Hire.  We did spotlight interviews, in which I sent them questions, and they replied in a video.  One individual did a great job, so I asked that when she got home from college that semester to come in for an interview.  Turns out she was actually in London for an overseas semester away, so she interviewed from there.  I thought, ‘Wow, this is so cool!’ I had no idea she was an ocean away!”

When asked about the future of mobile in hiring, Tolan said that “The job search will never go completely mobile.  Video in mobile in general is huge and adds a major convenience factor. Mobile can make you more efficient, but it depends on how you apply it.”
