Nordstrom to Buy Chicago-Based Trunk Club

Nordstrom announced today that it will acquire the Chicago-based men’s clothing service company, Trunk Club. The deal is expected to close in Nordstrom’s third quarter. No terms were disclosed.

Trunk Club provides a personalized shopping experience for men. With 250 stylists, the company focuses on building one-on-one relationships with its members to fully understand their lifestyles and personal styles. Members are then hand-selected clothing that best fits their preferences, and a box is shipped to their home. There’s no subscription fee for the service; rather, members just pay for an of the items that they wish to keep.

“Nordstrom is stellar at many of the things we aim to improve on to offer our members the best possible service: inventory management, planning and logistics are great examples,” said Trunk Club CEO Brian Spaly, in a statement. “We knew that a partnership with the best-in-class retailer could significantly enhance our member experience and we are excited to have found a company that is such a natural fit with our culture and approach to customer experience.”

According to a statement, the acquisition by Nordstrom is a part of the high-end retailer’s mission to integrate the online and offline customer experience. The company will announced the terms of the agreement on August 14.

Trunk Club will remain headquartered in Chicago and will continue to be run by its current leadership team. In 2012, Tech Cocktail got to speak with Trunk Club’s Spaly – watch it here:
