Bye bye, boredom: new mobile app saambaa is ensuring that making plans with friends is as easy as 1, 2, 3.
Say you want to grab a few drinks at that new bar downtown tonight. With saambaa, you can set the destination and time, then send the plan a plan to a group of friends from your phonebook and chat about it. Your BFFs don’t even need the app installed for saambaa to work – the game plan is sent as a free text message to recipients who don’t have the app, and they can participate in a group chat SMS. The set-up makes it easy as ever to organize group plans or send a quick message about where you are.
We’ve all experienced the pain in getting a big group of friends together – especially if you’re on a time crunch. Saambaa offers an intuitive, easy-to-use solution to creating near-term plans. The app enables people to quickly create and share plans with friends and discover what friends are doing so they can join in.
Founded by Matt Voigt, Mike Petanovitch and Christina Glavas in 2010, saambaa just enjoyed a 2-month tenure in Apple’s Great Free Apps – and they were a featured startup at our Tech Cocktail San Diego mixer last week. The team’s goal is to create a mobile social activity platform that gets the word out about events and happenings wherever you are – this 1) cures your what-to-do-on-a-Friday-night blues, and 2) takes a load off promotors who have trouble getting the word out about their events through smart, mobile-based word-of-mouth.
But what makes saambaa different from apps like Holler or Forecast? Saambaa is not strictly tied to Facebook or Foursquare, for one – the ability to invite users outside of the app is something that really sets saambaa apart. The app is also focused on getting you and your existing friend group connected at activities, events, and merchants, rather than connecting with random people in the immediate area.
One of my favorite parts about the app is its easy-going lingo: i.e. “Sarah’s Going out @ Mad Hatter Restaurant & Bar. Are you in?” Saambaa provides streamlined, flexible, and easy-to-use place to see what’s going on tonight – and who’s in and who’s out.
