SweetLabs has raised huge amounts of capital, they’ve established a strong base in San Diego, and their employees absolutely love the company culture that CEO Darrius Thompson et al have cultivated. What could they possibly do to be even better?
It’s a simple answer for them: China. That’s right, they’ve officially announced that SweetLabs will be opening another office in China. But why China, you may ask?
First and foremost, SweetLabs’ app distribution platform may be niche, but it’s part of a massive global trend that’s growing in almost every corner of the world. And, according to Joe Lin – one of the very first employees at SweetLabs – there’s no place in the world where this industry has boomed more than China.
While SweetLabs was readying their new App Install Platform last month, Lin spent a few weeks in China discussing new opportunities with developers who wanted to reach international users. He also worked with device manufacturers looking to improve revenues and user experience.
“It was immediately obvious to me that we need to be closer to our partners and the action,” says Lin. “
SweetLabs recognizes that China has almost twice as many internet users as the US has people, and 80 percent of them are mobile users. Lin will be leading efforts and operations to expand into Shanghai, and the team is even looking to hire some new employees to make it happen.
“It’s no secret, or surprise, that China is the epicenter for some of the world’s hottest app companies and device manufacturers,” says Lin. “In fact, it’s estimated that a third of ALL app developers reside in China and a flurry of formidable new device contenders are challenging Apple and Samsung.”
It’ll be interesting to follow how SweetLabs does in China. Stay tuned for more updates.
