Build Your Network and Build Your Business at The Mill

In February of 2014 The Mill, an accelerator in Downtown Las Vegas, funded their first startup founders with $5,000. It was the start of something great – it was the first step towards building a strong community around The Mill's central philosophy: create a flourishing startup ecosystem by helping idea and seed stage startups evolve.

Since then the accelerator, led by co-founder and Managing Partner Sara Hill, has blossomed into a unique flower. On one side The Mill works with entrepreneurs who simply have an idea for a startup while on the other side they work with already founded, early-stage startups.

There's a blurb on The Mill's homepage that sums it up near perfectly, to me:

“We were once an economy of factories. Now, we’re an economy of ideas. The Mill was a place of transformation. It converted cotton to cloth, grain to flour, ore to steel. The Mill changed the landscape of our economy once. We're ready to do it again.”

How is Hill and her dedicated team accomplishing this goal? They're focusing on building six core values into everything they do: thoughtfulness, resilience, contribution, integrity, transparency, inclusivity.

These values have been instrumental in changing the landscape of Downtown Las Vegas for the better, and they also caught the attention of one Pamela Slim. If you're not familiar with Slim, she's an award-winning author, speaker, and business consultant who has been an entrepreneur for eighteen years.

These days she spends her time orchestrating her Indispensable Community Tour, which is why she's interested in The Mill. The entire tour focuses on community building and The Mill is a beacon of light centered on the same overarching goal.

To that end, Slim will officially be stopping by Downtown Las Vegas on her tour. The Mill will host the event at Work in Progress on October 29, and according to Hill it's a pretty big deal – I don't disagree one bit.

The Indispensable Community Tour stop in Downtown Vegas promises to be an incredibly fortuitous opportunity for local entrepreneurs to learn vital community and relationship building skills. Not to mention, Slim is bringing with her decades of community building experience with both online and offline communities.

The Indispensable Community Tour was built as a four-hour practical workshop that addresses:

  • How to start ad build community
  • How to find ideal customers
  • How to choose great partners or funders
  • How to nurture connections and develop a real, robust, and diverse business from a a random collection of friends, colleagues and social media connections

“Pamela puts on good events, and what I love about them is that they have a lot of tactical and practical advice and skills you can learn,” says Hill. “This also helps put Downtown Las Vegas on the map and opens up a new realm of opportunity for our community and the various small business owners in the area.”

If you're interested in attending, there are tickets still available for $99 each or $149 for two. Honestly, I think this is one of those rare opportunities anybody in the area should take advantage of, and it's going to be a total blast!
