Venio: Meal Recommendations to Lose Weight or Just Stay Healthy

Venio

Venio, a food app with meal recommendations, launched an update earlier this month to make eating healthy easier.

To start, you enter your height and weight and whether you want to lose weight or just stay healthy. Then, it recommends breakfast, lunch, dinner, and snacks, tailored to your size and goals – like banana nut bread, cold tomato soup with tofu, or peppers stuffed with black beans.

The latest update gives you more choice. For example, you can substitute other meals if you don’t like the recommendations, or choose a gluten-free diet. You can also check the nutrition information on each meal, just in case. Venio recipes come from health blogs and are double-checked by nutritionists.

The 10-person Venio team is motivated to change how people take care of their health. Finding the right foods to eat shouldn’t consume your thoughts and time, they think. That’s why Venio includes a built-in grocery list and will be adding new filters, to sort meals by your favorite ingredients, how much time you have, and how difficult they are. The app may also add healthy restaurant information.

“Health isn’t really a one-step process. We want to be there at every step where the user needs help or where the user struggles,” says marketing strategist Karim El Rabiey.

Adds cofounder and CEO Jon Carr-Harris, “At the end of the day, we want people to stop counting [calories] and start living.”

Venio is part of Toronto’s Extreme Startups accelerator program, which has a demo day on November 28.
