Cathy Brooks: Finding Passion in Serendipity with Downtown Dog House

Cathy Brooks is a storyteller. It’s what she is good at, what she has made her living with, and during Tech Cocktail Week, Brooks shared the story of her journey from the dog-eat-dog technology industry to the fulfilling world of dog parks and doggy daycare.
When Brooks ran into Tony Hsieh at a conference last summer, he invited her to come to Las Vegas to check out his Downtown Project, and he mentioned that the place she would be staying was dog-friendly.
So, Brooks and her 70-pound Labradoodle set out for a roadtrip to Vegas to see what Hsieh’s project was all about.
Upon arrival, she quickly noticed that a dog park was lacking, despite the abundance of four-legged friends in Las Vegas. Brooks had found her next project.
Check out Brooks’s entire talk below to hear her story about opening the Downtown Dog House, and to learn why she believes serendipity, and simply taking a step back, can make all the difference in an entrepreneur’s life.
Tech Cocktail Week is a monthly series of events that takes place downtown Las Vegas and is produced in partnership with Tony Hsieh’s Downtown Project.
