Earlier in July we had our monthly Tech Cocktail Week Mixer & Startup Showcase in the middle of Frank Gruber’s big Startup Mixology book tour. Entrepreneurs packed into The Window to hear pitches from the local startups and vote on who they thought were the best.
In total there were 10 different startups vying for the win, but only 2 would go home with crowned the reader’s choice and best pitch champion. Each winning startup will get a spot to pitch at our national Celebrate event this fall.
We also want to send a big thank you to Dell for sponsoring the event.
Reader’s Choice Winner:
Loveseat: Finding affordable and stylish furniture is a major pain. The solutions that exist today are: 1) Spending the weekends hunting at vintage shops, consignment stores, flea markets, estate sales, etc. 2) Sorting through thousands of low quality listings on Craigslist to find that perfect piece – only to find out it’s been sold or the seller isn’t returning your calls & emails. Selling furniture today is equally painful. Selling a piece on your own is a hit or miss experience. You can take it to a consignment shop and give up 50% of the value, spend a weekend having a garage sale, or list it on Craigslist and deal with all manner of individuals asking you the same questions over and over again and when you finally find the buyer, they don’t show up. Loveseat fixes all of this by making buying and selling furniture a fun and social experience in a single app – bringing neighbors together in a safe and pleasant way with reliability and accountability.
Best Pitch Winner:
Pelonkey, Inc: Freelance entertainers are typically not business savvy. They tend to under value their services, and fail at protecting themselves properly, which can lead to non-payment, late-payments, and more. Entertainers represented by booking agencies conduct the business for them, however booking agencies are not accessible, and can take extremely large cuts from entertainer fees. Pelonkey replaces the booking agency to bring control back to the freelance entertainer by providing the necessary tools an entertainer needs to make doing business easy, affordable, and accessible.
