10 Most Downloaded Non-Game Apps in Q2, Ranked

A good app can do so much. It will organize your smartphone, connect you with friends, and keep you company on those longer trips to the bathroom. And while everyone loves a good mobile game, there are so many non-game apps out there that make everyday life so much easier. So which ones are the most popular? We've got the data right here.

According to a recent study from SensorTower, the top 10 apps have done some serious shuffle since the first quarter of 2017, and only a few of them will surprise you. For one, WhatsApp remains at the top of the global list, but was overtaken in the Google Play store. However, Facebook was able to claim most of the top five with Messenger and Instagram, a more than apt consolation prize for the social media giant. Much to Facebook's chagrin however, Snapchat, perhaps they're most bitter rival, was able to break into the top five globally.

Outside of the top five, there are a number of key takeaways that shouldn't be ignored. For one, Youtube, despite automatically being downloaded on all Android devices, was still able to break the top ten, as the second most downloaded app in the App Store. Similarly, despite being left off the top ten for each platform, Spotify locked in the number ten spot with relatively large downloads across both platforms, but outside the top ten.

The United States list, however, tells a very different story. With Messenger taking the top spot across the board and Snapchat claiming a notable second place overall and on Google Play, this rivalry may be a lot closer than we thought. Another meaningful takeaway is Uber overtaking Facebook in the Apple Store for the first time in new iOS installs.
