We’ve been following the 1776 Challenge Cup Tour over the last few months as they look for the world’s most promising startups that tackle global challenges in education, energy, healthcare, and cities. Today 1776 announced what they’ll be doing for the culmination of their event: The Challenge Festival.
The Challenge Festival will be held from May 10 thru 17, 2014 for a week of events that showcase Washington, D.C. as the epicenter for startups disrupting regulated industries. It will also feature events led by partner organizations that focus on how the expertise of Washington, D.C. can be mobilized to solve big challenges.
The main event will be the Challenge Cup Global Finals. All of the 64 winners from 16 international competitions will come together and compete to win the actual Challenge Cup.
“Since October, we have traveled the globe to 16 cities, from Cape Town and Austin to Moscow and New York, to find the most promising entrepreneurs,” says Evan Burfield, co-founder of 1776. “The Challenge Festival will bring the top startups together to compete and spend a week connecting to the political, social, intellectual and financial capital that are unique to Washington, DC.”
