Purchasing things for your home on your own for the first time can be a bit tricky. Although you really want to splurge on the latest tech gear to create an impressive bachelor or bachelorette pad, you realize that there isn’t another homeowner with you to keep you from going overboard. Fortunately, the process can be pretty simple when you really consider the benefits of each potential item you purchase.

As the proud owner of my own bachelorette pad for years, I can say that there are definitely some tech items that I bought and could’ve done without. However, there are also several items that I was reluctant to buy at first, but they ended up being some of the best investments in my home to date.

If you’re in the processing of filling your own home with the tech you need/want to make your day-to-day routine a bit easier and perhaps more enjoyable, there are several gadgets and services I’d highly recommend. Check them out below!

Fast Internet

It’s always tempting to cut spending where you can when it comes to monthly expenses. Although watching your energy, water, and gas consumption to keep utility fees down is wise, skimping on Internet service is not. If you’ve ever had to wait for Netflix to reload during an intense scene in Orange Is The New Black, you understand.

Investing in fast Internet doesn’t mean you have to splurge for the most expensive package, though. It simply means you should choose your Internet service based on your intended usage. If you’re not sure what that is, there are online tools available to help you determine how much speed you’ll need based on a variety of usage factors.

High-Tech Security

Even if you’re not the type to fret over strange noises at night, home security is a smart investment that provides a significant return in the form of peace of mind. More specifically, an up-to-date security system will help you rest assured that your home and your belongings are safe while you’re away at work or on vacation. One of the most important features to look for in an effective system is passive infrared sensors, which monitor changes in motion and temperature to identify potential threats more effectively than traditional sensors, which simply notify you when a door has been opened.

Another feature of up-to-date home security systems that can seriously stand to benefit an individual on-the-go is home automation. Choosing a system that allows you to manage your settings, check in on your home, and even control doors and lights while you’re away will help you rest a little easier when you leave your home.

Sound Systems

Whether you plan to entertain often or would rather leave the party hosting to others, a sound system that can be played both indoors and outdoors is worth investing in for your new home. Installing a system that plays music throughout your home is great for deep cleaning days where you’re busy hustling around your home. It is also an awesome addition to have in your home when you’re simply relaxing on the porch and would prefer not to keep a Bluetooth speaker attached to your hip as you go inside and back out.

Digital Trends offers up an excellent guide with tips for planning out an outdoor sound system. You can also find options for room-to-room wireless streaming systems online at Best Buy.

Smart Cleaning Tools

Last but not least comes one of my favorite tech investments I’ve made in my home – smart cleaning tools. These tools will allow you to leave some of the most tedious and time consuming chores up to a team of robots. For example, the Roomba vacuum can take care of loose dirt and pet hair on your floors each day or right before guests come by to save you time and effort. You could also follow your Roomba’s vacuuming with Braava’s automated mopping to make sure your floors are completely clean. Another great automated tool for cleaning is an automated shower cleaner. This tool cleans your tub to prevent calcium build-up and mold growth with just the push of a button after each shower use.

Now that you’ve got a few tips to help you get started, it’s time to get out and shop for some awesome products to tech out your new pad. If you have a tip for a tech item that you would recommend for single living, let others know about it in the comments below!
