500 Startups is launching its third batch of startups today at a 4-hour demo day event.
This class of 34 startups includes a variety of B2B solutions, as well as social and entertainment platforms, organizational tools, learning and reference websites, and products for kids. Two startups, ContaAzul and Rota dos Concursos, feature sites in Portuguese and are targeting customers in Brazil. Gizmo even built an HTML5 app listing the companies in this batch. Since the program began, a few startups have rebranded: DressRush is now Tailored, MelonCard has become SafeShepherd, and Redeemr has become PostRocket. Besides receiving mentorship and advice, the 500 Startups group took trips to companies like Google and Facebook.
“While we entered the program with a strong belief in the lean startup principal, and an obsessive focus on metrics, being in the program has enforced that,” says Zvi Band, cofounder of demoing startup Contactually.
