This week, the Kauffman Foundation announced the full release of a series of six videos on success strategies for women entrepreneurs. The videos are part of Kauffman FastTrac, which helps educate aspiring entrepreneurs and provide them with the resources and community they need to grow their business.
The video series features women entrepreneurs sharing their lessons on business, negotiation, and even work-life balance. Many of the tips are widely applicable, while others are directed at women and their particular challenges and tendencies. Check them out below:
Standout tip: Rebecca Gubbels of the UMKC Small Business & Technology Development Center believes that women may be slower to raise money because it feels like a loss of control; she encourages them to push forward and see it as beneficial to the business.
Standout tip: Laura Slezinger of Venture Gained Legal advises women entrepreneurs to sign work agreements with anyone who contributes to the project to avoid disputes later.
Standout tip: Davy Hartman Campbell of Fulfillment Plus believes that men are more likely to have their ego on the line during a negotiation, while women can really focus on what everyone’s goals are and come to a solution that solves everyone’s needs.
Standout tip: Katie Weiford of Kookiedoodle Crafts advises women to take advantage of their community and partner with other businesses to do cross-promotion at little to no cost.
5. Social media
Standout tip: Sarah Mote of WordKitchen believes marketing is about trust, so we should use social media to generate trust and build a community.
Standout tip: Michele Markey of Kauffman FastTrac believes there’s no perfect, idealized balance to achieve, but we can choose to prioritize the things that are most important to us.
