A Space Apart: Commerce Meets Location Based Services

As we’ve covered in the past, Location Based Services are becoming quite popular.  And since there is a lot of competition, it can be hard for new services in the space to differentiate themselves. But Chicago based A Space Apart brings some interesting features to the table that could help them stand out from the crowd.

A Space Apart does all the normal things you would expect an LBS service to do, like checkins and seeing who’s at a particular venue.  But, what’s really intriguing is that they’ve built in a commerce platform on top of their location features.  The example that A Space Apart gives is the ability to order a drink from your seat.  I’m sure if this service grows it won’t just be limited to buying drinks.  There’s no doubt that allowing customers to make purchases from their phones would be very appealing to business owners, as well as to customers.

No other LBS is offering a commerce feature like this yet, but it remains to be seen if this will allow A Space Apart to stand out in an already crowded space.

Come check out A Space Apart as they demo at the next Tech Cocktail Chicago Fall Mixer Sponsored by Sprint this Thursday, October 28th at John Barleycorn Wrigleyville, following the Startup Mixology Conference.
