Access Untapped Mobile Browsing Potential with Adrenaline

Unlike any mobile browser you may be familiar with, the Adrenaline Browser has opened the floodgates for new ideas, concepts, and designs to flourish on the smartphone. The Valkyrie Systems team seeks to separate their browser from the rest of the pack with a number of native features built in.

Sam King, Shuo Tang, and Haohui Mai, a group of computer scientists from the University of Illinois, got fed up with the lack of capability regarding HTML5 app functions and development in mobile browsers and decided to take matters into their own hands.

Web Push is one of the premier features they designed. To help explain its purpose, run with this example for a bit. A developer writes a mobile email client app. It is coded so that every time a new message is received, the app pushes a notification to the smartphone; everything works wonderfully. But apply this concept to a mobile browser version of the same app, and you begin to see some problems.

With current mobile browsers,  one could certainly create a nice user interface; but if the browser is not running, then there is no way to know a new message has been received. Now on Adrenaline, if the app is running but the browser is closed, a user will still receive a notification that an email has been received. It is a cool meshing of current app and browser technology.

Distributed Storage is another major function the team has built into Adrenaline that Valkyrie Systems utilizes via a number of cloud services they have. When used in conjunction with Adrenaline Browser, the team can access any apps remotely, update them automatically, and provide support for offline execution. What that means for the user is that you do not have to download any updates for your apps within Adrenaline, and you have continual access to support.

The browser can be customized to fit the personal desires of the user as well. If you wants the browser to look and feel a certain way, say a customized version for Tech Cocktail, you can mold Adrenaline so that it is decked out with logos and colors to fit. This is very useful for enterprise customers who want to provide a custom browser experience for all their clients.

Balancing between speed and performance has always been an issue with mobile browsing, but the Adrenaline team, much like Alexander cutting the Gordian Knot, settled for the best of both worlds. Because of this problem with speed versus performance, users might have apps running in different locations to accomplish one task. With Adrenaline, apps are centralized and can run at the same time without having to go back and forth.

“We have added specific functions to make sure you can have tons of information open simultaneously in Adrenaline,” says King. “We manage our resources to ensure fast performance even when multiple tabs are open.”

With a host of rare features all wrapped into one mobile browser, the path ahead is looking bright for Adrenaline. The team already has exciting plans for the future.“Publishing from Adrenaline is currently in the works,” says King, excitedly. “Users will soon be able to add developed apps directly to the browser.” So, if you want a new browser experience, give Adrenaline a chance to wow you like it already has for many others.

Adrenaline Browser was a featured startup at our Tech Cocktail Champaign mixer.
