This App Will Make Sure Your Social Media Presence Isn’t Embarrassing

Looking for a job can be incredibly stressful. In addition to having to wear nice clothes, your personality, work history, and hobbies are being judged by between one and twenty different people. And to make matters worse, social media has made it easier than ever for potential employers to sift through your past in an effort to rob you of your dream job. Fortunately, one company has decided that this is no way to live and has created an app to scrub your social media presence of anything deemed unfit by your next boss.

Rep'nUp is a completely free tool that uses an algorithm to determine which posts, tweets, pins, comments, and even likes will be viewed as a red flag for potential employers. While the visual content requires a membership fee of $9.99, recommending the app to five friends will get you this necessary addition for free as well.

The need for this kind of service is more prevalent every day, as college students have become increasingly blind to the effects of posting questionable content online. And with recruiters becoming more and more savvy with this various social media platforms, it's only a matter of time before they find you.

“Many employers are sending candidates friend requests,” said Lior Tal, cofounder of Rep’nUp in an interview with Boston.com. “And we’ve found that over 75 percent of candidates accepted friend requests because they wanted the job.”

If you've ever lived a crazy life and are on the job search now, let's be honest; this service is an absolute must. Doing this kind of social media scrubbing takes an inordinate amount of time to do on your own, and it's pretty much a guarantee that job recruiters are taking a look at your many accounts. Particularly because it has become so readily available to everyone in the click of a button.

“People really understand that, in order to get a job, you need to get your act together and doing it manually doesn’t really work because it takes a lot of time,” said Tal.

Rep'nUp is in partnership with a number of college career centers around the country, but they hope to make their services a staple of the job search process. So, whether you've donned an inappropriate Halloween costume or performed a keg stand within the last three years, Rep'nUp is here to help.
