5 Apps and Websites to Use for Comic-Con 2014

Starting today, San Diego will be teeming with Avengers, X-Men, Jedis, wookies, and other creatures for the 45th Comic-Con International, July 24-27. If you’re planning to attend, buckle up and plan ahead – last year more than 130,000 “beings” took over the town for the weekend. Here are some useful tips and must-haves around both the Comic and the Con to help you navigate and get the most out of your experience.

1. Official Comic-Con app

Comic-Con has just released the updated version of their free app on iOS and Android. Download it ASAP. It works without any Internet connection and also includes the complete program schedule, a detailed map of the Exhibit Hall, Convention Center, and hotels, and bios of all the special guests with photos, too.

2. Convention Center lost & found

In a mixed crowd of comic characters and galactic villains and superheroes, there is always a chance that things get lost. Label your items with your email or phone number and take pictures of them to make it easier to identify and find should they go missing. If you lose something, email detailed information (picture attached!) to lost.found@visitsandiego.com or call 619-525-5407.

3. Off-site events

Comic-Con activities continue beyond the Convention Center. Reddit reader Dustin created a map with all the off-site events going on during the four-day-long event. Show gratitude via @dustinmajitsu.

4. Getting around

The Convention Center and many places in the downtown area are covered by free Comic-Con shuttles. The 24-hour service runs from Wednesday, July 23, to Sunday, July 27, with a 15-30 minute frequency throughout the day. As a more flexible and more expensive alternative, you can find cabs and sometimes extreme pedicabs, too.

5. Eating

Saving the world and networking with superheros can leave you famished. A new startup Mogl is a San Diego-based cash-back-reward app for dining. Diners earn cash-back rewards for dining that can be used or donated to a local food bank. Just create an account, link your credit card, and start exploring the restaurants. Available on Android and iOS.
