Marijuana is a complex plant. Maybe you plan to partake for medical or recreational purposes, and want to do be well versed about what you’re putting in your body. Or maybe you’re a grower or distributor and want to interact with other experts, or brush up on certain strains you may be less familiar with. No matter what your exact needs, there is now a place (or an app for you Android folks) where you can get answers to your questions, do research, or simply connect with other enthusiasts.

CannaSOS is a company out of Toronto that believes in the power of medical marijuana. They have created a social and informative platform that provides comprehensive data on cannabis strains, health indications, medical practitioners, cannabis producers and marijuana dispensaries, treatment success stories, extensive reviews, education and legal information pertaining to cannabis industry. Their mission is to connect all stakeholders, including patients, medical professionals, growers, and activists in one place to learn, educate, and take part in the conversation about medical marijuana.

The site launched in January, 2015 and already has over 35,000 users. An Android app is currently available, and an Apple app is coming soon. The website features Q&A forums, a “Pulse” page where members can post pictures, videos, links, or other engaging content, and a mind boggling amount of information on over a thousand different strains of cannabis. They’ve also gamefied the site with Perk$coin points that you can exchange for different CannaSOS products and services.

While CannaSOS is primarily focused on medical marijuana, this site could definitely benefit recreational users as well (in the places where recreational use is legal, of course). Even if you don’t need it for a medical reason, it’s important to know about the common strains, possible side effects, and have the option to talk to experts in the field.

With medical marijuana legal in 23 states and the District of Columbia, and recreational use legal in five states and DC, it makes sense that businesses related to legal marijuana are also growing. Not long ago we reported that cannabis startups raised $104 million in 2014, and that number will certainly be higher when the 2015 stats come out.
