Today, the Challenge Cup competition opened applications for startups looking to compete in cities around the world.

Run by DC incubator 1776, the Challenge Cup includes pitch competitions in 16 cities in the fields of health, education, energy, and smart cities. Each city will crown one winner per category, leaving 64 finalists to duke it out at a week-long festival in DC. The top eight will receive investment from 1776.

To compete, startups must be less than three years old, have less than $3 million in revenue, have less than $1.5 million in funding, and have a launched product with traction.

Dates for the early events were also announced:

  • October 29: Washington, DC
  • November 4: Chicago
  • November 9: Moscow
  • November 13: Berlin

London, Los Angeles, New York, and Boston will follow in late November and December. Events will be held at major local incubators, who will host two-day “pop-up accelerators” with mentorship from Challenge Cup judges, investors, and entrepreneurs.

Applications for DC, Chicago, Moscow, and Berlin are due by October 11 – apply now!

The Challenge Cup is produced in partnership with Tech Cocktail and iStrategy Labs.
