Once upon a time if you wanted to get funding for a project you felt good about then you had to borrow money from friends or family or get a bank loan. Nowadays that’s not necessary. Today we have crowdfunding where you can potentially raise a large amount of money by getting many people to pledge small amounts to help you reach your fundraising goal.
Two of the more popular crowdfunding platforms are Kickstarter and Indiegogo. Startups and entrepreneurs post their campaigns on these websites and hope to entice people to back them and support their project. While there are many unsuccessful projects on these platforms, quite a number of successful projects would not have been possible without funding on these platforms. In order to increase the likelihood of success on a crowdfunding platform there are a few things you can do when it comes to your campaign.
Giveaways & Perks
Giveaways and perks are a key way to boost your campaign since they incentivize your audience of potential backers. While some backers might be willing to donate money to help your cause, giving them something in return is a great way to get them to back you. Something as simple as a T-shirt can work, but discounts on the product are better since backers will feel as if they’re getting an early bird special. Using both of these types of incentives is even better.
If you don’t continue to engage with your donors, they will be begin to wonder if what they signed up for was worth it. And most importantly, you are missing out on the opportunity to connect with your donors and have them share more about the project. Any seasoned crowdfunded company will tell you that the updates are crucial to a successful campaign, even if it’s for a few months. Donors need to be kept in the loop about changes, progress, delivery times and success.
Social Media Marketing & Influencers
With more emphasis being put on social media and the use of influencers, getting the word out about your campaign needs to be an on going effort to gain more donors. Think about it, around 3 billion people around the world use some form of social media. That’s almost half the world population on platforms such as Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat etc. By tapping into a minimal amount of them could make a difference in your campaign. To facilitate the finding of influencers and others to help promote campaigns, there are platforms such as Krowdster which can help you to narrow down which influencers might work best for your particular niche or campaign.
Getting your crowdfunding campaign off the ground and making it isn’t easy, but with consistent effort, you’ll have a better chance of success.
