There’s been an incredible amount of hype surrounding Cubic Transportation Systems recently, which comes as no surprise. At the beginning of March, they partnered with MasterCard, and then, only a week ago, they won the Gamechanger category at the Contactless and Mobile Awards in London.

Hot on the heels of that award, Cubic placed a bid to deliver Transport for Greater Manchester’s (TfGM) new Optimized Public Transport Integration System (OPTIS). Of course, given Cubic’s recent track record, they were successful and have officially been chosen to tackle this project.

OPTIS will contribute specifically to the delivery of two projects within the Smarter Travel package: Travel Information and Network Efficiency. The latter involves integration with TfGM’s Advanced Traffic Management solution.

This announcement, per the team, is the culmination of two years of work during which Cubic has established partnerships with specialist companies, like MasterCard. Other companies like Cloud Amber, SilverRail, and MXData will all contribute to the delivery of OPTIS as well, with Cubic being the systems integrator that brings all of them together into one seamless solution.

It’s been fascinating to see how an American-based company, operating out of San Diego, has been able to influence and integrate with transportation overseas. We’ll keep you posted on any other big news coming from Cubic as they keep optimizing travel around the globe.
