Unless you’ve been living under a bridge (or, I guess, in this case: in case you don’t live under the bridge), the DUMBO Arts Festival is happening this weekend – a three-day celebratory event that will showcase local, national, and international works from more than 400 artists. From outdoor and indoor art installations to street murals and performers, the festival will encompass all forms of art near DUMBO’s gorgeous waterfront views. Among the hundreds of galleries, studios, and organizations that will be at the festival this weekend, the upstart DADA will be there to launch its online drawing platform with a global virtual drawing party.

DADA is an online, collaborative drawing platform for visual artist professionals. On DADA, artists can produce digital drawings and collaborate with artists peers from across the globe to create entirely new and unique visual narratives. It provides artists with a way new way to connect with fellow artists, as well as develop their own personal styles and visual storytelling.

Founded by Beatriz Helena Ramos, an artist herself and the owner and founder of animation studio Dancing Diablo, DADA is meant to give visual artists an interactive medium through which they can interact not only with other artists but also with potential clients. Aside from mere collaborative drawing, the platform encourages dialogue between people right on the platform. The company also said that, in the near future, DADA will give artists the functionality to share a visual resume of their past works.

“For artists, [Ramos] wanted to make self-promotion, which is something most artists loathe, fun and painless,” said cofounder and CMO Judy Mam. “And for creative clients, she aimed to streamline the process of quickly finding reliable talent by not only showcasing work, as most existing platforms for artists do, but by revealing the artists behind the work. Through DADA’s online drawing platform, artists can create and collaborate with their peers, while those looking to hire talent can get a better sense of who the artists really are.”

At the DUMBO Arts Festival this weekend, the company is holding a global virtual drawing party. Artists from all over the world will use DADA’s platform to produce digital drawings, while members of the Montreal-based artist collective En Masse will be at the festival itself, interacting with the other artists through DADA. For local artists in NYC, the company is encouraging you to bring out your digital tablets and participate in the party at the DUMBO Arts Festival. Aside from the virtual drawing party, guests who stop by DADA at 4 PM during the festival on Saturday will get to interact in a visual conversation with award-winning artists Hermann Mejia and George Pratt.

Visit their website to learn a little more about DADA. The DUMBO Arts Festival is a free event and will take place in DUMBO, Brooklyn from Friday, September 25 to Sunday, September 27. Festival hours are listed below, and you can find out more from the DUMBO Arts Festival website.
