David Copperfield is Both Illusionist and Entrepreneur

You might not think that a man like David Copperfield could have too much to say about starting up, but you would be wrong. In fact, Copperfield had some incredible insight into the daily grind that entrepreneurs face when he spoke with Ben Parr at this year’s Tech Cocktail Celebrate Conference.

Copperfield is an entrepreneur in his own right: he had to sell himself as a company and his ideas on magic shows. Pair that with the fact that he got a lot of negative responses and doors closed in his face and you can see how well his journey might relate to the world of tech startups.

But he stayed relevant throughout it all, working hard to implement new attractions and illusions that would keep his audience engaged. He needs to draw every person into every performance he has, and perhaps one of the greatest pieces of advice he gave was that the struggles don’t end when you “make it big”.

Listen to your audience, through both positive and negative feedback, and you’ll be able to accomplish something great. Here’s the video:
