We see plenty of deals websites out there that allow users to participate in fun activities, educational opportunities, or fitness classes. However, the flip side of the coin is interesting to consider: What about the people who need to host – versus attend – major events?
Karla Amador and Mary “Lou” Lomibao, cofounders of Event Finds, have set out to help the host demographic. While most major events tend to be weddings, Amador and Lomibao want to take Event Finds beyond weddings to all major events.
The deals offered on Event Finds are focused on any kind of event like birthdays, graduations, or corporate events. Once vendors have completed an application and screening process, they can promote their services to an audience at-large.
Run with this hypothetical for a bit. Your grandmother is turning 80 years old. You have everything ready to go, but at the last minute, you realize you forgot to get a cake. You hop right on to Event Finds and see that a vendor is offering a professional-caliber cake late in the game. You grab it; crisis averted.
Members to the site can view their exclusive deals for free and contact companies directly to book them. “We want booking to be as easy as possible while creating lifetime partnerships,” explains Amador.
Event Finds covers Northern and Southern California, Dallas, Chicago, Las Vegas, Miami, and New York. The team has cast their net wide, but they ultimately fall short in one crucial area: deals offered.
Their competition seems to be offering more deals. BrideRush offers deals specifically for brides and wedding parties. Eventup offers deals as they relate to venues for hosting events. EventNow offers the whole package for anybody seeking venues, entertainers, or eleventh-hour event setups. Today, Event Finds offered a total of three deals on their site that are only available to Southern California.
If Amador and Lamibao want to be able to stand toe-to-toe with the competition, and truly expand across America by the end of 2013, they should focus on deals offered. The idea, construction, and implementation have all been accomplished soundly, but Event Finds needs to find more deals for their clientele.
Event Finds was a showcased startup at our Tech Cocktail Los Angeles mixer.
