Find One New Product a Day with Daily Grommet

Every year about 30,000 new consumer products are introduced.  With such a staggering number, it can be hard to find products that are useful and worth purchasing. There are also those amazing products that may not have a lot of advertising dollars behind them.  That’s were Daily Grommet comes in.

Daily Grommet is a site that is dedicated to finding high-quality, stand-out gift items and other products that have a good story behind them. On a recent visit to the site, for example, the product of the day was a silver necklace on a Gore-Tex chain.

The Boston-based startup is always on the lookout for great undiscovered items. Daily Grommet features one new product a day, five days a week, with a quick video. The videos not only show off the featured item but also tell the story of the people behind it and how it came to be.  Daily Grommet believes that telling these stories will enhance the value of the product.  But it’s not just up to the Daily Grommet staff to find new products to showcase. They also rely on people in the community built around the site to recommend products they love. Daily Grommet calls the concept “citizen commerce.”

Not just any product can make it onto the Daily Grommet site. There are certain criteria a product must meet to be considered a “Grommet.” In addition to being previously undiscovered, it has to be useful and innovative, and it has to have style.  Its creator should be passionate about it and should treat customers well.  Most important, there should be a really good story behind the product.

If you’re on the hunt for a unique gift that you’re not likely to find at the mall, Daily Grommet would definitely be the place to look.

Daily Grommet is a finalist in the 2010 SXSW Accelerator and will be showcasing their stuff at the TECH cocktail SXSW: Blackout Sunday event, presented by Microsoft BizSpark and Volusion.
