Flyp: A Handy App to Get Multiple Numbers on One Smartphone

Every day we play different roles: We play, work, love, and much more. Since each role involves remote communication as well, it’s easy to spot people with at least two phones: one for work and one for personal life. Those lucky enough to have found a dual-SIM phone that works really well can consider the problem solved, but what about those who want to separate these roles with different phone numbers? Here is where Flyp can come in handy.

Flyp is a free app that gives its users a different number for each part of their lives, and the good thing about it is that it all happens within an app on a single device, both for iPhone and Android. It isn’t the only app offering such services, though: Flyp competes with Hushed, Shuffle, Burner, and other apps that are already available on the App Store.

What makes Flyp stand out from the competition is that Flyp offers the first phone number for free but, more importantly, will charge neither for inbound nor outbound calls. Flyp uses your existing mobile number and service to route calls made and received through the numbers it creates for you. Voice calls use airtime minutes, so you may see them on your phone bill, while text messages use Flyp’s proprietary system, not the carrier plan.

Actually, Flyp isn’t the cheapest option when it comes to reserving a phone number. Flyp charges $2.99 for a number, or $29.99 if you reserve it for a year, whereas other players charge only $2, but they do charge users for text messages, and both inbound and outbound calls. That makes a difference.

So, if you want to start separating your roles, maybe it’s time to consider using Flyp. The app is available as a free download from the App Store.
