Fortify.vc isn’t your standard Venture Capital firm, at least not the type of firm we’ve become use to in the DC region. There’s just something different about the firm’s partners Jonathon Perrelli and Adam Fazackerley. They talk differently, they’re approachable and pragmatic where others are distant and theoretical. The most important difference to early stage entrepreneurs is that Fortify is actively investing in seed stage companies.
Fortify.vc is making an investment in the region that is personified by their coming-out party, Distilled Intelligence 1.0, scheduled to take place October 11th from 9:00am to 5:00 pm at the Commonwealth of Virginia’s Center of Innovative Technology (CIT) in Herndon, Virginia, when 55 DC-region startups will pitch for $25K in cash and prizes. Fortify enlisted the sponsorship of some of the area’s fiercest supporters of entrepreneurship in the capital region, including Cooley, DLA Piper, The University of Maryland Dingman Center for Entrepreneurship and CIT GAP Funds.
Adam Fazackerley, General Partner of Fortify.vc and Master of Ceremonies, for the event had this to say:
“We had a large number of submissions and many great companies to choose from. The overall quality, diversity and level of talent made this a challenging process. Initially, the down select number was 50, but the caliber of the startups was so strong that we felt compelled to expand the field.”
According to the event organizers, they are on track to draw more than 500 people. Tickets are on sale at distilledintelligence.com for investors and entrepreneurs who are interested in attending. Tech Cocktail readers can register with discount code FORTIFY, which provides 10% off the price of admission. It pays to be a Tech Cocktail reader! Unfortunately, this discount does not apply if you are are VC or Angel Investor (they’ll be watching).
Jonathon Perrelli, Founder and General Partner of Fortify.vc had this to say:
“This is a unique time for innovation and investing in the Mid-Atlantic region, and we are fortunate to see such support for Distilled Intelligence 1.0 from the technology community, sponsors, startups and investors. Although it feels like we are throwing two weddings on the same day as we cater to the needs of both founders and investors equally, all of the hard work will pay off for this region.”
The 55 presenting companies included that will be demoing at the event are as follows:
H2 As Fuel (no website)
MoGo Mobile (no website)
New Vision Health
Start Some Good
We’ve covered some of these companies in the past, and we’ll be covering some of the new companies in more detail in the coming weeks.
