Guide founder and CEO Freddie Laker calls himself a “futurist,” and it’s evident after a few minutes of talking to him.
When I last interviewed Laker about Guide, he could have focused on the platform’s current abilities: turning written news articles into video broadcasts. Instead, he spent a good deal of time musing about his future vision: a world where artificially intelligent assistants manage and deliver information to us right when we want it.
“I day dream…a lot,” Laker’s LinkedIn profile reads.
His daydreaming has helped him found a bunch of forward-thinking organizations, including a 24-hour Internet radio station, an early ISP in Florida, and the digital agency iChameleon Group.
Laker sat down with Tech Cocktail at our SXSW Startup Celebration sponsored by CEA and .CO. He chatted about the long-term vision for Guide, Miami’s startup scene, and his Terminator-like disdain for sleep. Here’s the video.
