G2.fm Connects Musicians and Venues

Often the process for musicians to find gigs can be costly and time consuming. They have to create DVDs and press kits which, for smaller bands, can be very expensive. G2.fm thinks it may have a solution to this problem. G2’s idea is to create an online band profile that incorporates all the components of a press kit, such as music, videos, pictures, and bios, making for a much more cost effective solution.

Once a band has built their profile they can then search for venues that have openings and apply to perform there.  After that, the bands show up in the queue of that venue’s booking agent.  One interesting component of what G2.fm is doing is allowing bands to pay to show up at the top of the queue.  Its very reminiscent of how Google allows Websites to buy the top of search result positions, which seems like a better use of funds for bands trying to get as many gigs as possible.

G2.fm seems like a very promising startup with a very intriguing business model. They recently were selected as the winner of the MidVentures25 pitch competition and were awarded a TECH cocktail sponsorship. G2.fm will be demoing as a showcased startup at TECH cocktail Chicago 13 on Thursday, May 13th, 2010 at John Barleycorn in Wrigleyville.
