Last week while many people were headed down to Austin, Texas for South by Southwest Interactive, entrepreneurs and startup enthusiasts gathered in Chicago as 25 Midwest startups competed in a pitch competition called midVentures25. A panel of expert judges chose five finalist companies to give 3-minute pitches in front of the crowd, ultimately choosing one winning company, G2.fm, to receive over $16,000 in cash, prizes and professional services.
The winner, G2.fm is an online community where bands/artists share music and connect with venues and fans. G2.fm looks to revolutionize artist application management for live music venues, saving artists time and money, while creating new revenue streams for member partners. You should see G2.fm at the next TECH cocktail Chicago on May 13th, as we donated a TECH cocktail sponsorship to the midVentures25 prize package.
The 25 startups each received free admission and were chosen to participate in midVentures25 based on merit. The expert panel of judges included Andrew Mason, CEO, Groupon; Chuck Templeton, founder of OpenTable; Jason Heltzer, Principal, OCA Ventures; Biju Kulathakal, CEO, TradingBlock, and co-founder, RedBox; Adam Siegel, CEO, InklingMarkets; and Ted Souder, Head of Regional Industry–Travel, Google.
