Giovani Twigge of IDEXX Laboratories on Company Culture

Walk along the streets of Portland, Maine and you’ll find everything festivals and sports to historic museums and local companies. If you happen to walk into the Maine College of Art (MECA) this June 19-23, you’ll be treated to Maine Startup & Create Week (MSCW), where there’s a week-long celebration of the entrepreneurial spirit and highlighting local companies and startups in Portland.

The schedule is jam packed with keynote speakers including, Marvin Ammori, a senior legal and business leader at Hyperloop One, and Felecia Hatcher, a White House Award winning entrepreneur and the founder of Code Fever and BlackTechWeek, as well as workshops and sessions on building a diverse team, leveraging local networks, building globally, and more.

 Giovani Twigge, Corporate Vice President and Chief Human Resource Officer of IDEXX Laboratories, has helped build the company from a five employee small startup to generating close to $2 billion annually in the past few decades. To accomplish this, Twigge says the ingredients to success are simple:

“A passion for what you do, and a focus, and a quality, and the rest take care of themselves,” he said.
In this MSCW interview, Twigge shares his advice on the importance of company culture for those seeking opportunities at a new companies and deciding on what is right for you.
“If you don’t find a culture in organization and leadership that provides that support for you, then find somewhere else because you will not grow as an individual,” he said.
