Twellwishes is a Twitter app that reminds you of your followers birthdays and allows you to send virtual gifts for special occasions.
Simply log in using your Twitter account and upon your first visit, you’ll receive 100 free credits for the gift shop. Virtual gifts can be purchased via the credits or direct via Paypal. Gifts range from a birthday cake to a Frosty pint o’ beer.
People spend over $1.5 billion on virtual items every year, so it’s no surprise to see the idea has come to Twitter. Following the popularity of Facebook gifts, people have now realized the potential of sending friends gifts through social networks.
Twellwishes will provide a custom link for your friends and followers to add their birthdays to your dashboard. When their birthday rolls around, you will receive a tweet reminding you. From there you can click on the link to go to the marketplace to send a gift.
Twellwishes has a lot of potential. The reason I like Facebook gifts is because they not only offer free items every now and then, but they also offer limited edition gifts. Imposed scarcity does drive impulse purchases. The ability to schedule future gifts to avoid last minute inconveniences could be a nice added feature as well.
If Twellwishes can stay current with their virtual gifts and create a demand, we’ll likely hear more about them throughout the year. Twellwishes will be showcased startup demo at TECH cocktail DC 8.
