When it comes to personal branding for the job search, how can employers be sure job seekers aren’t pulling their leg?

There’s no way for hiring managers to truly know a candidate is the expert they claim to be on their resume. That’s why a new website, GiveBrand, is helping job seekers prove the credibility of their personal brand in an interactive, visual way. The site aims to let your professional network speak for your abilities – like a third-party endorsement for your job search.

GiveBrand generates a word cloud to visually represent your personal brand, which can help hiring managers and recruiters see how a job seeker’s network would recommend them based on their strongest skills and abilities. The visual summary gives employers a quick way to gauge a candidate’s most important assets – and job seekers can see how their professional network perceives them.

Here’s how it works: Job seekers set up a personal profile on GiveBrand, complete with their contact information, a photo, and a short description. From there, they can invite their friends or professional contacts. Once they’ve joined the site, job seekers can assign tags to their contacts to describe their professional skills and capabilities – for instance, someone working in communications may be tagged with “PR,” “writing,” “web copy,” “Twitter,” or “blogger.” Users can also vouch for tags given to other users to give them more credibility and encourage them to return the favor.

If a single word or phrase isn’t enough to describe specific skills, users can add a short description of the tag, visible to anyone who visits that user’s profile. GiveBrand’s give-and-take tagging model allows job seekers to interact with their professional network, and helps employers easily gauge whether or not their candidates are all talk.

This interactive personal branding site is a unique tool for both job seekers and employers who want to ensure their candidate comes highly recommended. For more information, you can take a tour of GiveBrand on its website.

GiveBrand was a showcased startup at our Tech Cocktail Chicago mixer in September.
