New York-based startup Glamsquad announced that it has raised $7 million in Series A funding in a round led by SoftBank Capital. The “Uber for beauty services” is headed by Gilt Groupe co-founder Alexandra Wilkis Wilson, and it brings professional beauty services to customer anywhere. So you can be in your office or at your hotel and request a blowout with just a swipe on your smartphone.
The round of funding also includes Lerer Ventures, AOL’s BBG Fund and Montage Ventures. The funding will be used to expand operations to other cities, starting in Miami during Art Basel in December.
Glamsquad’s competitors include Madison Reed and The Stylisted. The startup has a regulated training program for each stylist. The company also does a background check of every stylist who applies to be a part of Glamsquad.
The company launched in January of this year and has been expanding its services to include not only hair and makeup, but also other beauty services. The price range is $50 for The Bombshell blow-out to $125 for an elegant updo with The Prima. And makeup application is $75 for all the different looks.
