It’s no secret, the tech world has a bit of a diversity problem.

We’ve seen several large tech companies have release their workforce diversity numbers and, needless to say, those numbers caused quite a stir. The question is, what can be done to make tech more diverse?

Google, which is one of those companies that shared their numbers, is taking steps towards ensuring more diversity in the tech fields by launching a new initiative called Made With Code to encourage more women to code. This isn’t just a new side project, Google is investing $50 million into making this work.

Now, Google isn’t the first organization to enter this arena. Organizations like Black Girls Who Code and Girls Who Code have been working ferociously to encourage more women to get involved with technology. Even Year Up, a non-profit that helps low-income urban young adults (many of which are in tech) hone their skills to enter the professional world, has been hard at work.

The good news is that we as a society recognize the diversity problem and can now take steps to fixing the issues.
