No one would have ever seen Brandy the Surfing Pug catch a wave or Captain Andreas B. Heide freediving with wild orca whales if it wasn’t for a GoPro. Whether you’re a sport enthusiast, photographer, or someone who just wants to capture the action, a GoPro was probably involved.
GoPro has gone through a lot of ups and downs with concerns from analysts due to an unsettling 2016. Fortunately, the company hired COO CJ Prober, who has been building on the positive momentum and continuing to push innovation for all of us adrenaline junkies out there.
Today the company announced their two new pieces of hardware, GoPro Fusion and GoPro Hero 6, to their camera lineup and several software updates to the existing tech. The Fusion is GoPro’s virtual reality/360-degree camera. Read about it here.
The company seems to be on an uptick. In their 2017 second quarter earnings report, GoPro indicated that the HERO5 Black was the best-selling digital image camera in the U.S, according to The NPD Group’s Retail Tracking Service. Additionally, on Amazon Prime Day (July 11), the HERO Session bundle sold more than ten-times the weekly run-rate. Revenue was $297 million, up 34 percent year-over-year and 36 percent quarter-over-quarter.
And on social media, GoPro gained 1.6 million new social media followers and a large percentage on YouTube. Can you blame us? Watching everything from the Maya Underworld to Jason Paul balancing skills atop a 500 foot tall skyscraper is addicting.
If you want to learn more about GoPro and their next steps, CJ Prober will be speaking at Innovate Celebrate 2017.
Prior to GoPro, CJ served in various management roles at Electronic Arts (EA) including as its Senior Vice President of Digital Publishing, its Vice President of Publishing and Product Management for Social Games, and its Vice President and Head of Corporate Development.
The guy seems to gravitate towards fun, and now you can hear how he’s developing cool products so we can live in the moment.
Make sure to join us at the Innovate Celebrate conference in San Francisco, CA. The event will take place October 9-11, and it is held in partnership with the Consumer Technology Association (CTA).
