Today, San Francisco, CA-based Grabr is announcing the successful close of a $3.5 million seed round. The round is led by Alexey Repik of RBV Capital with participation from Konstantin Nikolaev of N-Trans Group.. The seed round builds on their initial angel round of $1 million in April of last year.

Grabr is a peer-to-peer marketplace that connects product seekers to travelers who can deliver specific items to their home city. More specifically, Grabr enables travelers to bring hard-to-acquire items into locations where they are not regularly available.  With their latest round of funding Grabr plans to expand their network and offering. According to the company, since launch Grabr has connected more than 50,000 users to each other.

“We’ve only seen the beginning of how peer-to-peer sharing will impact global communities, and Grabr is by far the most disruptive platform we’ve encountered in this space,” said Alexey Repik, Managing Partner at RBV Capital. “We’re very impressed with what Daria and the Grabr team have managed to build in just one year and are looking forward to what the future holds.”

Unlike similar apps and websites, Grabr’s differentiator comes down to its international focus. From delivering unique items from a specific city or because the cost is otherwise too expensive, the network allows travelers to exchange empty luggage space for cash. Sellers are also paid through secure platforms such as Stripe, PayPal, or major credit cards. Travelers can be rewarded for delivering items from $5 up to more than $100.

“We are inspired by peer-to-peer and sharing economies as well as marketplaces, and we wanted to combine these two to create one that would influence people’s lives in different countries by giving them access to global shopping and making travel more affordable,” said Daria Rebenok, CEO and cofounder of Grabr. “Our team of investors has a deep understanding of global logistics, commerce, and flows in the on-demand space around the world.”
