OpenCandy, the San Diego-based startup that sponsored our last Tech Cocktail San Diego mixer event, is announcing Hackathon SD, to take place in downtown San Diego’s historic Gaslamp Quarter on February 18th and 19th.

Hackathon SD will bring together creative software developers, web developers and designers from across Southern California to work collaboratively on projects of their choosing in a 23-hour marathon of creativity and cooperative development. This marathon of brainstorming, designing, and coding  will culminate with presentations and prizes for the winners and a post-hack party at Voyeur nightclub.

“There aren’t a lot of chances for developers in San Diego to meet one another or work cooperatively” said Adrian Bourke, Co-founder and Director of Product Management for OpenCandy.

With Hackathon SD, we’re creating a place for local developers and designers to collaborate on projects in a fun, social setting. Not only do we expect to see some innovative hacks, we hope the connections made will be long-lasting and fruitful.

The Hackathon will kick off at 7 pm on Friday, continuing through the night and the following day, then wrapping up at 9:30 pm on Saturday with prizes and recognition for the top hackers as well as gifts for all participants. OpenCandy will be providing food and drinks to keep participants coding throughout the 23-hour duration of the hack.  Visit to sign up.  On a personal note, we’re hoping to see if any new startups might emerge from this event.
